Summer Reading

Have I mentioned that the library at my new school is awesome? Not only do they stock all the reference books, educational movies, and academic journals I could ask for as a science teacher, but they also keep an updated collection of all the most recent popular books too! I read the Percy Jackson books that way. Anyway, they have opened the library to faculty and staff to check out their summer reading. We get the books through August! Sweet. So today, I got my stack. It probably won't last the whole summer, but it should be fun.

The Carrie Diaries- Bushnell (Meet Carrie before Sex and the City)
The Hunger Games- Collins (I know nothing about it, but my librarian friend says it is great)
Catching Fire- Collins (The sequel to Hunger Games)
The Scandal of the Season- Gee (Historical fiction)
Varsity Green- Yost (inside the money of NCAA athletics)
Acceptance- Coll (fiction about getting high school kids applying to college)
The Kind Diet- Silverstone (I've read good reviews, and it has a huge recipe section. There was no way I was paying full price though.)

I got my first audio book too. Wicked. I loved the play, but I doubted I would ever sit down and read the book after seeing the production. I look forward to listening to this on my long drives to the barn and such.

I will also have a professional development book I have to read in addition to course design stuff. I'm hoping I can get most of that done while I'm at work supervising the summer academy.

  1. My mom, also a librarian, says Hunger Games is sooo good! I bought a copy at the Scholastic sale last weekend. Enjoy!

  2. I am impressed that you have a collection of scientific journals there. High school has changed a lot since I was there, that's for sure!
