Ready to be Home

Seriously. Can I just come home tonight? It isn't because I'm tired of my mom. I could easily keep hanging out with her. I just don't want to be stuck in this crap shack for the next seven hours. My dad decided that we needed to save money for this night we stayed by the airport in Fort Lauderdale. He insisted on booking the hotel. I have no idea how he found this place or whose reviews he thinks he read saying it was fabulous, but that man will NEVER make hotel reservations for mom and I again. This place is vile. It smells like bug spray, the carpet is pulling away from the walls where they have it glued instead of baseboards, the shuttle (you know the whole reason you stay at an airport hotel) only runs from 5:30-10:00 and 1:00-8:00. WTF? This means that all the money he "saved" by giving us a bargain hotel will be lost since I have to cab it in the morning. Seriously though, if I wake up with flea bites or whatever else gross, my dad is paying for another day at the spa for me because right now my skin is amazing after this week.

Mom and I are spending the evening hanging out in the attached sports bar just so we don't have to stay in that depressing room. We ordered the all you can eat fish and chips so we could nibble all night. We each ordered because that only seemed fair. Well, we have been here for about 3 hours, and we decided we wanted another plate to pick at. They brought us a piece of fish. We said, where are the fries? Apparently it is only all you can eat fish. What restaurant gives unlimited meat (expensive) but doesn't load you up on cheap carbs? This place is bizarre.

Mom and I need to get mani/pedis this morning before we start cruising around West Palm. We asked downstairs for a walk-in type nail place, but they weren't much help. I decided to hop online and see what I could find. This is where we are going.

Check that out! They provide glasses and openers for people to bring wine, prices are super reasonable, and we were able to make appointments online! Excellent. I'll be sure to update how the actual services are, but the reviews I see online are solid.

Look Up!

If you're in TN, look up! Why? Because I'm blogging from the plane. Haha. I'm on AirTran for my flight to FL, and they have free WiFi in the cabin. Pretty sweet. Even look at their webpage when I load it.


That's right, I can check my connection info, bag claim, etc. to get real-time information while I'm en route. I think I love this. Thank goodness I charged my battery before I left this morning.

Oh yeah, and I started a Twitter account. My education conference convinced me that I needed to network with other science teachers that way. Does anyone have suggestions for how to get followers? I signed up for Mr. Tweet, but he's been useless so far.

I should admit that this was the first race. As you can tell, socializing with all the other first time racer dogs was much more interesting than running up that hill. I ended up running up the hill with the dogs following me.

Review

I got my review at work today. This is the first time I've had a formal review process. At my last school, well, let's just say things were a little looser. Anyway, the meeting went great! My paperwork was awesome, and the only real criticism was about lab setup, but it is something I can easily change and improve on.

Overall, a good day.

You know what I just realized?

Last week I posted about how beautiful the weather was going to be in the coming days. I linked to the image that Chanel 5 posts of the forecast. Well, the link is static and the forecast just updates. I only noticed because I wondered why there was a clock on the picture. Well dummy, it's because this weekend is the time change!

I guess today really is random Thursday.

My Day

5:45- Out of bed, about 30 minutes late.
6:30- Out the door, right on time!
7:00- Arrive at work and get a little grading done.
7:30- First meeting until 8:45.
9:00- First class.
12:30- 30 minutes for lunch because of student meetings. Lunch was spent talking about registration issues.
3:10- Last class finishes.
3:30- Out the door to go home, let out dogs.
4:00- Home, dogs go out, computer gets opened again. More work.
6:00- Make dinner, play with puppy in last of the daylight, finish dinner, eat.
6:30- Back to work.
8:45- Finish work and alumnae volunteer stuff. Begin answering e-mails that have come in in the past 5 hours.
9:00- Blog and turn off computer.

How many hours was that? I even had to cancel my workout at the gym. Boo.

The Most Beautiful Thing

This is the most amazing thing I've seen in a while. Warm with no rain over the weekend. Aaaah!

Evolution

We're finishing up our evolution unit in class this week. I have one student who regularly complains and says that "Jesus is the answer." ::sigh:: We just keep moving forward. I don't require them to believe it, but they do need to understand the science behind it.

On a happier note though, evolution conversations always bring up crazy ideas. Today, for instance, a child asked what the chances were of humans evolving into kangaroos. I had to inform him that one was a placental mammal and one was a marsupial. He was crushed. "But I wanted to be a kangaroo! Wait, if kangaroos hop, and rabbits hop, are they related?" Again, we had to talk about placental vs marsupial, but to look at his crushed face was both heartbreaking and hilarious.
