I Enjoy Being Right

It looks like I'll be teaching AP Biology next year. The woman who was teaching it is not happy about the fact that I'm ready to put my stamp on it pretty much today. A small e-mail skirmish began this morning regarding my feeling that the students really need to have a meaningful summer assignment if we are going to get through all the material. J, the current teacher, wants to go on assigning a fluffy science type book that they can all talk about on Opening Day. Well, the Science Department Chair came right out and stood behind my take, and J is caving already.

Being right makes my day a little brighter. :)

Stomach Flu

I tested this morning, and I guess it's just the stomach flu. Not gonna lie, I'm bummed. I feel like I should delete this whole string of posts.

Pop Quiz

I've gotten half a dozen e-mails at home today asking me how to do the following problem.
Given that you can dissolve 50g of sugar in 100 g of water, how many grams of sugar can you dissolve in 200g of water?

Really? I mean, I try to not make judgments about my student's intelligence, but this is ridiculous!

Well, hmmm

Last night I was starting to feel better. The nausea was going away, and I began to think I was human again. Then at about 8:00 I got super achy and hot. I took my temperature and it was over 100. That meant I had to call into work because of the 24 hour fever-free rule. What a pain since I was supposed to give a test today.

Anyway, I slept from 9-7, got up and felt pretty good. My fever is gone and my stomach wasn't hurting any more. DH just got up now. He's made the coffee, and the smell of it has started my stomach churning. Hmmm. We shall see. I know I need to wait a few more days to test.

I Feel Like Crap

I'm nauseous, my back hurts, and my whole middle section feels gross. This better be because I'm pregnant not some stupid bug.

Breaking in the new stuff

DH gave his new chair a test run yesterday with a little help from Henry.

New furniture!

As you may recall, we worked on redoing our living room before Christmas. The sofa was in stock and arrived before the holidays. The chairs were custom and they arrived today! So here we go with our gorgeous new living room!

The sofa with new pillows. They were custom made by the same company that made "my" chair.


This is "my" chair. I think it is so comfortable, and I love the pattern. I absolutely cannot believe that DH is letting me do the room in blue and brown. He's always hated that combination.


This is DH's chair. He likes the style, though I think it is less comfortable. I had no idea what fabric he had chosen until it arrived today. It looks great, but I think it is too much tan to go next to the sofa. This presents a problem if DH wants to be able to watch TV while sitting in his chair.

It's the little things

I leave my house around 6:30 every morning. For most of the school year, that means I leave in the dark and get to work when it is barely light. Guess what? It has been getting light when I get in the car, and full on daytime when I arrive at work this week! That MUST mean spring is coming. Eventually.

This morning I even had to wear my sunglasses because the sun was even shining. I had forgotten what that looked like. Surely that means today will be good. Right?

DH is silly

He made our dog a blog today. I wonder what they will say.

Making Babies

No I'm not pregnant. I did just find out that someone else is, and I am SO happy for her. She is a great girl, and while I've only met her IRL a few times, she is just one of those people you wish the best for. You know?

I'm trying to keep my head on straight and know that my time will come. It is pretty fun these days that DH and I talk about it. How we'll decorate the nursery has been a more regular conversation. Last night he asked the puppy what he would do when a baby came because he wouldn't be able to sleep between the pillows any more. I laughed. I will say that I'm enjoying the process of trying. ;)

Yeah, so V Day really isn't my thing. I mean, I love DH, and I enjoy giving him gifts. That being said, I really dislike Hallmark holidays. That being said, this year has been nice. We're in a good place, we're trying to get our family going, and things are just good. This year, I got DH the cake from Lubeley's above to share, a nice card, a Versace scent gift set, and, wait for it, an ice scraper and wiper fluid. Yes, my man wanted those romantic items for his present. Silly boy.

We had a nice dinner on Saturday at Mango. Today we'll get brunch, something we haven't done in a long time, and I hope I can get my new Black Eyed Peas album onto my iPod soon. I need to buy one of those arm band things so I can listen to my tunes even while I'm doing my strength training.

Happy long weekend to all, and Lent starts this week. I wonder what I'm giving up this year. I'm contemplating bread because I think it would help my weight loss, but I don't know if that would be a lost cause.

Today, I arrived at work at 7:02 a.m. Guess how many decent parking places were left? One. That's a little creepy. We are all such early risers!

Now I'm off to the all staff meeting to find out what our raise will be next year. Last year there were no raises because of the economy. As my friend said, I already got a raise based on how little I made last year.
