Job Interview

No, I'm not quitting. Despite the stress and exhaustion I'm feeling right now, I do like where I am. In fact, I like it so much that tomorrow I'm going to talk the the Head of School about the possibility of taking a more active role in the summer academy.

My current desire is really to move in to administration and make a bigger difference than just being another faculty member. I'm young and obviously very new to the school. That being said though, I have good ideas and fresh insights that I think could be great. We'll see. I spent some time yesterday talking to the person who is stepping down from the post.

Any spare vibes would be appreciated.

Anyway, I saw this game on Angie's blog and asked to play. She has assigned me the letter G, and I will now list 10 of my favorite things that start with G.

1. Grover

What can I say, thinking about the alphabet and all that made me think of Sesame Street. And so, here is one of my favorite characters.

2. Gelato

Mmmmm. Italian gelato is so amazing. Not only does it taste like heaven, but the stores always have such beautiful displays.

3. Google

Come on! This is only the best search algorithm ever! Plus, how can you not love the funny things they do to the home page for holidays and big events?

4. Geldings
Well, it can't be fun for the poor horse. Mares are just too moody for my tastes, and stallions are too volatile. All of my horses have always been geldings, and I suspect that is a trend that won't change any time soon.

5. Green Bananas

OK, not totally green, but like these in the picture. I really dislike when they get mushy and black.

6. Golden Retrievers

The last dog my parents had was a Golden. I named him Sigfried. He was so good. I miss him, and I know my parents do too. I actually love all dogs, but I needed a g, and DOG clearly doesn't fit the bill.

7. Girlfriends

Everybody needs friends, and there are just things that only other women will understand.

8. Green Vegetables

I LOVE veggies! In fact, when I was a kid, I would turn away hot dogs, hamburgers, and all that stuff in favor of broccoli. What can I say? I was a freak.

9. Gum

Seriously! I love gum. I am always popping in a piece, and I get mad at myself if I don't have any in my purse. There is no good reason for my love, but, it is what it is.

10. Gouda

What a delightful example of one of my absolute favorite foods. Cheese is the best! Gouda is fabulous because it has such a smokey flavor and it melts very smoothly. One of my favorite uses for Gouda is macaroni and cheese. Mmmmm.

Interview

I'm sure everyone has seen the interviews going around. Heck, I'm probably the last one to actually get one done! Kristal was kind enough to send me five fabulous questions, and here are my responses.

What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Hmmm. I eat anything. No really. I will try anything once. The strangest thing I ever ate on a regular basis was probably when I was a kid. Mac-n-cheese has always been a favorite of mine. Well, for about a year, I used to LOVE eating it with steak sauce (i.e. A-1.) I tried it again recently, but it was not nearly as good as I remember. Another thing I never got into was deep fried spinach. Flash or pan fried spinach is great, but deep fried is really gross. It's like breading filled with tissue paper. Ugh.

You have to endure a natural disaster (earthquake, hurricane, etc.). Which would you choose and why?
Well, I did several tornadoes growing up in the Texas panhandle. We had that earthquake last year, but it wasn't serious. I think I would choose hurricane though. You always know it is coming at least a couple days in advance so you can prepare. The drawback is that it can last so long.

You are offered the position of President of the United States. Would you take it or not? Why?
I had to think about this one for a long time. I think I would rather be a Supreme Court Justice (even though I'm not a lawyer) than be the President. The reality is that the office of the president has very little power in terms of day-to-day policy. The Congress has much more power in terms of legislation. I feel like being president has a whole lot of requirements but not as much reward. Plus, the pressure it would inevitably put on my family would probably make me feel very guilty. I would always wonder if they resented me for putting them in that situation.

Would you rather be hilariously funny or drop dead gorgeous?
I'm ashamed to admit that I would rather be gorgeous. I know all the stuff about beauty being skin deep, fading with time, etc. But having always been average at best, I would really love to even be pretty.

You have to sum up your life on a bumper sticker…what would it say?
Where did those breadcrumbs go? I left myself a path somewhere!
