Making Babies

No I'm not pregnant. I did just find out that someone else is, and I am SO happy for her. She is a great girl, and while I've only met her IRL a few times, she is just one of those people you wish the best for. You know?

I'm trying to keep my head on straight and know that my time will come. It is pretty fun these days that DH and I talk about it. How we'll decorate the nursery has been a more regular conversation. Last night he asked the puppy what he would do when a baby came because he wouldn't be able to sleep between the pillows any more. I laughed. I will say that I'm enjoying the process of trying. ;)

Nursery Inspiration

Let's start with the room that will be the nursery assuming we stay in the same house. It currently acts as my office/linen closet/ guest room/ where I display my good ribbons.


It's not huge, and the window is quite small. I love blue walls, and I put the chocolate stripe around the top. My current plan is to leave the colors the same, but I guess we could change it if something else really struck our fancy.
On to the inspiration part.
I want an alphabet nursery! Right now I'm torn between two main wall displays.

This was the first alphabet wall that caught my attention. I think it would be fun collecting the letters and DH, an artist, could paint them all crazy.
But... I think this is a neat way to display the letter idea too!

An advantage I see to this one would be that it would be easy to take down or change as the baby grew up. It would even be a fun way to display his/her artwork over the years.

I also like how they chose animal letter flash cards and then used animal bedding. However, I think you could choose any type of bedding if you did the alphabet theme.
While I was then looking for alphabet flash cards, I came across this cute display with geeky cards.

Aren't those adorable? Etsy seller Tiffany Ard makes them. She doesn't have the actual flash cards listed now, but the posters are also awesome. I admit that I'm considering getting one for my classroom next year. DH would love the french ones since they relate to some surrealist paintings that he feels strongly about.
I think it would also be fun to mix and match the styles of the cards. I thought these were cute too. Maybe show some on the letter side and some on the animal side.

Finally, I saw this on a blog I read. How cute! If I did the first wall treatment, I am sure it would be overkill. But I think it could go with the second one.

They come in several colors and aren't obscenely expensive. I wonder if I could do it myself though. Hmmmm.
Speaking of DIY, I would also love to do this chair featured on DIY Showoff. I can't get the picture to show up here, but you should check it out. That looks like a craft I could actually do!
In terms of bedding, I think I would consider going custom. In case you didn't realize, I am an Etsy whore. I found a couple of custom bedding vendors that I think might be a good way to go so that I could get exactly what I wanted. I think if I got a custom bedskirt and cover, then it would be easy to supplement with BrU sheets and stuff. Handmade First Class makes some lovely stuff and has great fabric choices.
I have no idea what we would do in terms of furniture. I'm sure DH will have strong opinions about that. I suspect we would go with a darker wood though, and I know I would like something that will convert to toddler bed and then a headboard. I saw a cool one at Target that had a side table that could be used as a changing table and the convert to a nightstand by just taking the thing off the top. Kind of like this one.

A Quiet Smile

I spent an alarming amount of time yesterday filling out employment paperwork for the new job. I kid you not, the pile of stuff to go through was like 8 inches tall! Anyway, we were able to choose between two health plans. The price difference is only $20 a month, and we figure we would make that up right away since DH is on two Tier 2 meds that cost $10 less per refill on the more expensive plan. Anyway, the information the school gave us didn't have anything about maternity or visits to the gyno. So I went to the website to get a little more info. Well, it looks like the more expensive plan covers 90% and the less expensive covers 80%. The more expensive one has a MUCH lower deductible too. So, that's what we're doing.

But that isn't the part that made me smile. DH and I have always said we want a kid. We've only been married 3 years (4 in September,) and the timing just wasn't ever right. Well, a few times in recent weeks I've mentioned a baby. He's like, we don't have that insurance yet! I always reassure him that I'm not pregnant now. Anyway, I keep saying but next year.... He's good with that. We have a plan! Now this is all assuming we can get pregnant. Who knows. It makes me smile though to know that we are totally on a plan.

So if you see me smiling, now you know why.

K had her baby!

Remember how I went to San Antonio to help K drive back to Virginia before she had her baby? Well, the baby came on Sunday morning! Her name is MacKenna Izze. The middle name is at the insistence of K's husband. He liked the name of those fruit sodas. Silly boys. Anyway, here is the obligatory picture.



I think she is beautiful. Like for real beautiful, not just I tell anyone who has a new baby that it is cute. :)
