I have a new customer at the store. She came in the first time right before New Year's. We tried on tons of half chaps, and she said she would think about it. That first visit took about 45 minutes. She came back last week ready to buy a pair. We tried on another 500 pairs, and she finally purchased the cheapest pair in the store. After buying them, with her sister's money as they were a present, she called me later that day with a question about them. Then she called me two days later with more questions and idle worries.
Today she comes in to the store to return the darn things! Why? Because they had a tiny thread poking out after the tie off at the bottom. She called me 10 minutes ago to tell me that she wants to order another type that I don't normally carry. I, of course, will order them for her.
What kills me is looking at what this sale will earn me. MAYBE $50. That's right! Crazy lady will result in about fifty bucks. Some days this is SO not worth it.

Welcome to my hell. I HATE retail. Sometimes I really wish I had not accepted my dad's request to come work for him! I was soooo happy at my desk job at Ball Foster.
ReplyDeleteDo you know how many times people have come in, wanting to buy a diamond, and we spend at least $20 every time to get these diamonds in to show them, and selling a diamond takes a long time, so the sales person may meet with the client 2 or 3 times and spend hours with them, and then they buy somewhere else and don't have the decency to return calls or tell us why or give us a chance to compete with the other store? It's SO frustrating!!!!! And profit margins are down so much we hardly make anything anymore like we used to. It's horrible! I'm sorry you had to deal with that.
K bye.
